To sail on Sea Essay you will need to either be a member of the CSSC or pay a Day Membership fee (see charges). There are 3 steps to membership of CSChannelSailing:-
1. Join CSSC
Membership of CSSC is open to employees of the Civil Service and over one hundred other bodies such as BT, Royal Mail, English Heritage and the Research Councils, members of HM armed forces, the police, local authorities and NHS employees.
- Membership is also open to former members of CSSC who have left government service, or those who have retired and are receiving a pension from an eligible organisation.
- If you don’t qualify for CSSC membership in your own right you may be able to join as a Linked Member. Linked members are sponsored by an existing member for their first year of membership. After that they qualify as a full member and can themselves sponsor linked members.
If in doubt about your eligibility see the CSSC FAQ or contact the CSSC Membership Department on 01494 888444. The easiest way to join is online via cssc.co.uk.
2. Join the CSSA
Once you are a member of CSSC you should join the CSSA at no further cost. This will entitle you to subscribe to the crew bureau or enrol for the courses and other events that are publicised by email and on this and other CSSA related websites.
Download and complete the form at www.cs-sailing.org.uk. When completed please send these forms to the CSSA Membership Secretary.
3. Join the Civil Service Channel Sailing Club (that’s us)
CSCSC Ltd has three levels of membership:
- Member
- Sailing Member
- Day Member
A Member is a Guarantor who undertakes to contribute to the assets of CSCSC Ltd (to a value stated in the Articles – currently £1) in the event of CSSC Ltd being wound up while such person is a Member, or within one year after they cease to be a Member, for:
- payment of the Club’s debts and liabilities contracted before such person ceases to be a Member or within one year after they cease to be a Member;
- payment of the costs, charges and expenses of winding up; and
- adjustment of the rights of the contributories among themselves.
- Any CSSC member may apply to be a (Guarantor) Member of the Club.
- All Approved Skippers, whole boat Charterers, Company Directors, Officers and Members of the Management Committee must be CSSC Members and (Guarantor) Members of the Club.
- CSSC members who do not wish to be a (Guarantor) Member can apply to be a Sailing Member, or when they sail on the boat as crew will be registered as Sailing Members. Sailing Members will remain registered as such for a period of two years following their last sail.
- Only (Guarantor) Members can vote on Resolutions concerning the CSCSC Ltd Articles and business at a General Meeting (Annual or Extraordinary)
- Both (Guarantor) Members and Sailing Members can vote on Resolutions which concern operation of the Club (as opposed to the Company) including the Club’s Rules at a Club GM.
- Non-CSSC members may sail as Day Members for a total of 14 days, after which they will need to join as Sailing Member or Member. They have no entitlement to vote.
